Malcolm Dedman

Malcolm Dedman (born November 3, 1948 in London ) is an English pianist and composer.

Dedman had piano, violin and singing lessons in his youth. From 1967 to 1971 he studied applied physics at Brunel University in London. 1974-75 he studied composition with Patric Standford at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama . At the Bahá'í Academy for the Arts in Somerset he attended composition courses with Nancy Lee Harper and Lasse Thoresen from 2002–03 . After studying composition with Francis Pott , Paul Robinson and Lawrence Roman , he obtained his master's degree from Thames Valley University in 2005 .

In 1969 Dedman won first prize at the Brent Music and Dance Festival with the Sonata Movement for Piano , in 1974 second prize at the Stroud Festival with To Lesbia and in 1985 second prize at the Rencontres Internationales de Chant Choral with Come Unto Me . From 1975 to 1982 he was tenor in the BBC Symphony Chorus . From 1991 to 2002 he gave private lessons in music theory, composition, keyboard and piano at the Castle School in Thornbury at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic School in Bristol. He has lived in South Africa since 2007, where he has been teaching piano and violin in Middleburg since 2008.
