Painter of Athens 877 is the emergency name of a late Geometric - Argive vase painter. He was active between 750 and 690 BC. Chr.

Two vases are attributed to the painter of Athens in 877, a kantharos found in Mycenae , which is kept in the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio , and a crater found in Tiryns , the name vase , which is in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens . It got its emergency name from the crater in Athens, which is kept there under the inventory number A 877.

He is considered to be a mediocre representative of geometric-Argive vase painting, but the execution is still meticulous enough to be considered an individual painter. On both vases there are depictions of people and horses, the execution of which is an exaggerated adaptation of the painting by the Schliemann painter , whereby the proportions appear more natural, however. As with the Schliemann painter, horses bow their heads on both sides towards a man standing between them with raised hands. The nose and chin of men are clearly defined. Fish with large round eyes are depicted under the bellies of the horses, in the upper corners of the picture fields there are smaller rectangular fields that are filled with patterns. The side panels of the vases are painted with rows of birds and are reminiscent of the Verdelis painter .
