Malignant vascular tumors
Malignant vascular tumors (MVT) comprise a variety of histopathologically defined sarcomas . These tumors are very rare and can occur in any part of the body. The prognosis is u. a. depending on the location. The large sarcoma registers show that around 7.6% of soft tissue sarcomas can be assigned to MVT. Women and men are affected about equally often.
The different histopathological sub-forms are:
- the angiosarcoma (AS)
- lymphangiosarcoma (LAS)
- the malignant epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE)
- malignant hemangiopericytoma (HA)
Malignant vascular tumors are to be distinguished from sarcomas with primary vascular involvement (e.g. leiomyosarcoma of the vena cava or vena cava or the aorta or retroperitoneum or extremities) and from sarcomas with secondary vascular involvement.
Symptoms include swelling , pain , tumor protrusion, bleeding , weight loss, or other discomfort. The tumors can occur in different parts of the human body ( limbs , trunk , abdomen , retroperitoneum , endocrine glands, etc.).
The primary treatment for patients without distant metastases is surgery; the principles of sarcoma surgery must be observed. The chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be more treatment options. The prognosis after operative therapy depends on the primary tumor size and location. The most favorable courses are those in which no organ metastases have yet occurred. A special sub-form are the angiosarcomas of the liver, which require a special therapeutic approach by specialized sarcoma surgeons.
