Malik Kummi
Malik (Muhammad) Kummi (born around 1528 in Kum ; died around 1616 ) was an Indo-Muslim poet .
Life
He trained with scholars and writers in Kashan , where he lived for a period of 20 years, and in Qazwin . Early on in his youth he gained a high reputation for his talent. He later moved to India , where he resided in Ahmednagar and enjoyed the protection of Nizam Shah I and, after his death, that of his successor Nizam Shah II.
High point of his career
After the conquest of Ahmednagar by Akbar I and a brief appointment as a poet at the court of 'Abd al-Rahīm Khān i-Khānān, to whom he devoted numerous Qaṣāʾid , he was appointed to the court of Bijapur as a poet laureatus . Numerous works were created in collaboration with Zuhuri (1537–1616), whose father-in-law he was. Shortly before his death, Kummi, whose character was very much appreciated, lived a secluded life. Both Kummi and Zuhuri are considered the only relevant poets of their time.
