Natural monument

The mallinden is a group of three old linden trees. The oldest, a summer lime tree ( Tilia platyphyllos ) with a trunk circumference of 9.30 m, is estimated to be 400 years old. The other two are about 200 year old winter linden trees ( Tilia cordata ) with trunk circumferences of 5.17 and 3.52 m respectively. The three linden trees form a common crown and are 25 m high at the highest point. The group of trees is on the 1016 road from Mühlhausen to Eisenach and has been protected as a natural monument since 1936. The trunk of the oldest of the three linden trees is said to have been hollow 100 years ago and was filled with bricks and concrete to preserve the tree.

Historical meaning

The place is believed to be the former court of the Mark Dorla and is provided with a stone table , where according to tradition, court was held. According to ancient scriptures, executions were also carried out here, for example on a woman who was burned at the stake as a witch .
