Malte Brettel

Malte Brettel (born May 8, 1967 in Oldenburg ) is a German economist and university professor at the Chair of Economics at RWTH Aachen University .

Life

Malte Brettel is one of four children of forensic doctor Hans-Friedrich Brettel (* 1936), a retired professor at the University of Frankfurt am Main and his wife Hede, née Bruns. His younger brother Hauke ​​Brettel is a doctor, legal scientist and criminologist.

Malte Brettel studied industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering at the TH Darmstadt from 1987 to 1993 and received his doctorate in 1996 at the University of Applied Sciences for Management (WHU). He then worked for various private companies, including the online marketplace for books JustBooks.de, which he co-founded, as a managing partner in Düsseldorf and managing director in London, as well as an independent consultant. In 2003 he completed his habilitation again at WHU. Since 2003 he has held the chair of economics for engineers and natural scientists at RWTH Aachen University. He has also been head of the RWTH Aachen start-up center since 2003 . In 2012, Brettel was elected as the successor to Günther Schuh as prorector of RWTH Aachen University and entrusted with the field of business and industry.

Brettel is married and has two children.
