history
Like Johanniterstraße , the street is named after the Johanniter-Kommende Velden, which can be traced back to Düren in 1290. The Johanniter received the island of Malta as a gift from Emperor Charles V in 1530 . From that time on they also called themselves Maltese .
The path used to be called Veldener Weg . In 1934 the pond bridge was built. The residents of Düren-Nord and the more distant places no longer had to go through the city center to get to their work place at the glassworks , the sugar factory or the slaughterhouse.
Between 1939 and 1942, 60 people's apartments were built on the eastern street.
