Malwarebytes is anti- malware software from Malwarebytes Inc., based in Santa Clara , California . It is available for Windows , macOS and Android operating systems and, with more than 100 million downloads, is one of the most popular anti-malware solutions. In 2011, the company was named the sixth most popular download on CNET , with more than 20 million downloads . Malewarebytes 3.5.1 is the last version that supports Windows XP and Vista and will continue to be provided with the latest updates for Windows XP and Vista.
scope
The business model is freemium . The free trial version of the software can be used without restrictions for 14 days and is identical to the premium version. It contains a real-time scanner with anti- ransomware and web protection. Without a fee-based upgrade to the premium version, Malwarebytes is then converted to the basic product, with a malware scanner and remover, which from now on must be kept up to date "manually".
Malwarebytes Endpoint Security is software for corporate use.
Testing
The Netzwelt.de editorial team highlighted the resource-saving scans . Chip.de's conclusion was more critical. The program would lack functions in the freeware version that are available in comparable solutions for a pro version at no extra charge. Nevertheless, the program is recommended by many communities that specialize in removing malware , such as trojaner-board.de and bleepingcomputer.com .
criticism
Unlike many other malware scanners, Malwarebytes does not report the EICAR test file as a threat. Instead, the message when scanning the file reads “Infected files: 0 (No malicious objects found)”. This is at least questionable because the test file was created to check the virus detection of a virus scanner. The test file should therefore also be recognized as a virus by Malwarebytes and displayed.
