The Hotel Bristol is a five-star hotel at Makartplatz 4 in the old town on the right of the Salzach in Salzburg . The hotel is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Center of the City of Salzburg .

history

Archbishop Paris Lodron had a city palace built here for aristocrats around 1619. The banker Karl Leitner from Mattighofen bought the property of today's Hotel Bristol in 1886 and built a caloric and peat- operated power plant there to supply electricity to selected companies in Salzburg ( Café Tomaselli was one of the first customers ). This went into operation on October 13, 1887 as the first electrical power plant of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy . In 1894 the power station became the inn, known as an electricity hotel because of its electrical lighting , and in 1907 it became the Hotel Bristol . The hotel was owned by the municipality of Salzburg and received its present facade when the hotel opened.

In the 1930s the hotel came into the possession of the Hübner family. As one of the few private hotels in Salzburg, it is now in the third generation of the owners. The hotel also houses the toque restaurant Polo Lounge . A fashion store can also be found here.
