Mame Island ( English ; Japanese ま め 島 Mame Zima , German 'bean island' ) is a small island off the Prince Harald coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the eastern part of Lützow-Holm Bay , it is 150 m west of Ongul Island .
Aerial photographs and measurements of a Japanese Antarctic expedition carried out from 1957 to 1962, as a result of which the naming was made, were used to map the island. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the Japanese designation in 1968 in a partial translation into English.
