Otto Jordan (born August 7, 1856 in Braunlage ; † March 11, 1937 in Hanover ) was a German chemist , manufacturer and manager .

Life

Born at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover as the son of the ultramarine manufacturer Emil Jordan, who worked in Schleke near Goslar , he has been mainly concerned with chemistry and chemical technology since his youth - almost as a life- long term .

In 1876 Otto Jordan passed his Abitur at the first-class secondary school in Goslar . He studied at the universities in Greifswald , Bern and Berlin and received his doctorate in 1880 from the University of Greifswald . There he worked temporarily as an assistant in geology and then took over the management of the chemical factory in Uebigau near Dresden .

In 1883 he joined the Egestorff salt works , for which he received power of attorney , and at the same time was appointed director of the Egestorff ultramarine factory in Linden , which under his management was expanded to a factory with bright colors, but above all iron red . At the same time as the installation of the chemical factory Nienburg of the Egestorff salt works, which is more favorable due to the freight conditions, Jordan set up another paint factory in Nienburg.

Otto Jordan was a founding member of the Association of German Chemists (VDCh), acted several times as a representative on the board of directors of the VDCh and, together with Ferdinand Fischer, founded the Hanoverian district association of the VDCh. He also headed it several times as chairman.

Due to his managerial functions, Jordan was first elected to the board of the Association of German Paint Factories , and based on his experience in industrial production, he was also elected to the board of the Hanoverian steam boiler monitoring association .

Shortly before the outbreak of the First World War , Otto Jordan left his work at the Egestorff salt works and pursued private studies. In the years from 1914 to 1918 he worked in various areas of war-related administration, in the Hanover Chamber of Commerce , at several civil and military authorities and in war welfare.

During the war and in the early years of the Weimar Republic , Otto Jordan was chairman of the German Association of Technical and Scientific Associations . In 1917 the "factory director a. D. Dr. Otto Jordan from Linden-Hannover “was awarded the Cross of Merit for War Aid .

In 1920 Jordan organized the general assembly of the VDCh. He died on March 11, 1937 in Hanover.
