Mami Naitō
Mami Naitō ( Japanese 内藤 真 実 , Naitō Mami ; born December 25, 1986 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese badminton player .
Career
Naitō is from Kanagawa Prefecture and has an older and a younger brother. She attended Kushikawa Elementary School in Sagamihara . During this time, at the age of 9, she was introduced to badminton by her older brother and played in the school club. She then attended Kushikawa Middle School, Motoishikawa High School in nearby Yokohama , and the Japanese Sports University .
She had her first success at the Dutch Juniors in 2005 where she and her future teammate Shizuka Matsuo took first place in doubles. She received her first major national title at the nationwide student championships in 2007 where she won gold in doubles, which she was able to defend the following year.
After graduating from college, she joined the Sanyo company on April 1, 2009 and played for their factory team and, after Panasonic took over the company in 2011, for their factory team.
Mami Naitō first attracted international attention in adult sports when she finished third in the women's doubles with Kana Itō at the Australian Open 2008 . In 2009 she won the women's doubles at Austrian International with Shizuka Matsuo . With her she won her first Japanese championship title in the same year, as well as the Australia Open 2011 .
