Shizuka Matsuo ( Japanese 松尾 静香 , Matsuo Shizuka ; born November 24, 1986 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese badminton player .

Career

Matsuo is from Osaka Prefecture . Her family brought her to badminton at the age of 8 and also played in the school club at the Uriwari-Nishi Elementary School in the Hirano district of Osaka. At that time she achieved her first success with a 2nd place in singles at the national primary school championships in 1998. While she was in middle school, she played in the school club of the Uriwari-Nishi Middle School, but attended the private Shōin-Higashi Middle School in the neighboring town of Higashiōsaka . At the middle school championships in 2001 she reached 3rd place in the individual. Then she went to the Konohana Gakuin High School (like Shūichi Nakao before ) in the Ikuno district of Osaka. In 2002 she reached the 3rd place in the individual at the Inter-High high school championships, as well as the 2nd place in the badminton high school championships. In 2003 she won gold in singles and 3rd place in doubles, and in 2004 at Inter-High, 2nd place in doubles.

She had her first international success at the Dutch Juniors in 2005, where she and her future teammate Mami Naitō took first place in doubles.

After school, she joined the Sanyo company on April 1, 2005 and played for their factory team, or after Panasonic took over the company in 2011 for their factory team.

In 2008 she won the same discipline at the Australia Open together with Yasuyo Imabeppu , the sister of her teammate Kaori Imabeppu , and came in second in mixed. In 2009 she won the Austrian International and the Japanese individual championships in women's doubles again. In 2011 she won the Australia Open again in doubles with Mami Naitō.
