Higashiōsaka ( Japanese 東 大阪 市 , -shi ; literally: East Osaka ) is a city directly east of Osaka in Osaka Prefecture on the main island of Honshū of Japan .

geography

The waters of Onii-gawa, Nagase-gawa and the Daini-Neyagawa flow through Higashiōsaka.

history

The city was formed on February 1, 1967 by merging the cities of Fuse ( 布施 市 , -shi ), Hiraoka ( 枚 岡 市 , -shi ) and Kawachi ( 河内 市 , -shi ).

economy

Particularly important are industry and trade (Fuse), as well as the textile industry and electrical appliance manufacture (Kawachi) and mechanical engineering (Hiraoka).

Attractions

The Hiraoka Shrine is located in Higashiōsaka .

Twin cities

On August 12, 1959, Fuse became the sister city of the Berlin district of Wedding , which in 2001 became the new Mitte district.

Hiraoka became the sister city of Glendale (California) on September 23, 1960 .
