Mammillaria capensis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet capensis means "from the location in the Cape District near Puerto de Bahia".
description
Mammillaria capensis forms small groups. The cylindrical, olive-green plant bodies are up to 25 centimeters high and up to 3 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The cylindrical warts are without milky sap . The axillae are covered with 1 to 3 short bristles. The thorns are needle-like, reddish-brown to black with a whitish base. One central spine is stiff, mostly hooked and 1.5 to 2 centimeters long. The 13 radial spines are 0.8 to 1.5 inches long
The funnel-shaped flowers are pink to white. They grow up to 2 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. The club-like red fruits contain black, pitted seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria capensis is common in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur .
The first description was in 1933 as Neomammillaria capensis by Howard Elliott Gates . Robert T. Craig introduced the species to Mammillaria in 1945 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
