Mammillaria dixanthocentron is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet dixanthocentron means '(Greek di) two, (Greek xanthos) yellow, (Greek kentron) center' often with two yellow central spines.

description

Mammillaria dixanthocentron , has a short, cylindrical body with a height of up to 30 centimeters (often only up to 20 centimeters) and a diameter of 8 centimeters. The axillae , which are initially covered with sparse wool, are located between the cylindrical warts . The areoles are also covered with delicate wool. The 19 to 20 radial spines are very thin, white and only about 2 to 4 millimeters long. The 2 to 4  central spines are sometimes whitish, yellow or brownish with darker to dark red tips. While the fresh central spines are initially only 5 millimeters long, those in the lower part can reach up to 15 millimeters.

The flowers are relatively small, around 15 millimeters in size, light red to purple with pink edges. The fruits are also cylindrical in shape, yellow in the lower part of the plant, orange in the upper part and about 15 millimeters long. The seeds are brown.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria dixanthocentron occurs in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla at an altitude of 500 to 2000 meters. It was first described in 1980 by Roy Mottram . The synonym Mammillaria dixanthocentron var. Rubrispina R. Wolf (1987) described as a variety is known.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
