Mammillaria heidiae is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet was named after Heidi Krähenbühl, the wife of the Swiss cactus connoisseur Felix Krähenbühl (1917-2001).

description

Mammillaria heidiae grows individually or in groups with partly fibrous roots. The spherical shoots are up to 3 centimeters high and 5.5 centimeters in diameter. The cylindrically shaped warts are without milky sap . The axillae are covered with 1 to 5 thin, white and up to 1 centimeter long bristles. Up to 2  central spines , either hooked or straight, grow up to 1.2 inches long. They are reddish brown, basal yellow and flexible. The 16 to 24 radial spines are straight, bristle-like, flexible and glassy white in color. They become up to 1.1 centimeters long.

The yellowish green flowers are up to 3 centimeters long and have the same diameter. The initially green fruits turn brown later. They contain black seeds .

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria heidiae is common in the Mexican state of Puebla . It was first described in 1975 by Hans Krainz .

Mammillaria zephyranthoides var. Heidiae (Krainz) J. Luethy (1987), Bartschella heidiae (Krainz) Doweld (2000) and Mammillaria zephyranthoides subsp. heidiae (Krainz) J. Lüthy (2000).
