Mammillaria limonensis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet limonensis means' named after the place where it was found in El Limón, Jalisco, Mexico.

description

Mammillaria limonensis grows strongly branching from the base and forms small groups. The spherical to short cylindrical, gray-green shoots are 4 to 12 centimeters high and 3 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The slightly tapered and cylindrical warts are stubby with a flattened tip and without milky sap . The axillae are covered with up to 14 bristles. The bristles are up to 1.5 inches long. The 5 to 8  central spines are brown to blackish with a yellowish base. They are 0.9 to 1.8 inches long; the bottom hooked. The 15 to 20 radial spines are straight, white and up to 6 millimeters long.

The short funnel-shaped flowers are pink and up to 1.2 centimeters in diameter. The shiny scarlet fruits are club-shaped. They become 0.8 to 2 inches long and contain coarse, pitted, black seeds .

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria limonensis is found in the Mexican state of Jalisco .

It was first described in 1985 by Werner Reppenhagen . Synonyms are Mammillaria fittkaui subsp. limonensis (Repp.) J. Lüthy (1995) and Escobariopsis fittkaui subsp. limonensis (Repp.) Doweld (2000).
