Mammillaria luethyi is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet of the species honors the Swiss botanist Jonas Martin Lüthy .

description

Mammillaria luethyi grows solitary or branched with a succulent turnip root. The spherical to flattened spherical, dark green shoots reach a diameter of 1.5 centimeters. The slender cylindrical and protruding warts are very close. The axillae are provided with bristles between the warts . No central spines are formed. The up to 80 protruding to radiating radial spines are white and stand in dense rows. They form flat, star-shaped cushions up to 2 millimeters in diameter.

The light magenta colored flowers with a light throat have a length and a diameter of 2 centimeters. The fruits sunk into the body are spherical and yellowish green to reddish green in color. They are 4 to 5 millimeters in diameter and contain black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria luethyi is common in the north of the Mexican state of Coahuila .

The first description was in 1996 by George S. Hinton .

Mammillaria luethyi was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in 2002 as " Endangered (EN) , d". H. classified as endangered. In 2013 it was named " Vulnerable (VU) ", i. H. listed as endangered.
