Mammillaria schwarzii is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the cactus collector Fritz Schwarz (1898–1971), who collected in Mexico.
description
Mammillaria schwarzii forms groups and grows with spherical shoots that reach heights of up to 3 centimeters and a diameter of 3.5 centimeters. The warts are cylindrical. They do not contain milk juice . The axillae are covered with up to 12 white, thin and up to 5 millimeters long bristles. The 8 to 9 white central spines have a darker tip and are 5 to 6 millimeters long. One of them is sticking out. The 35 to 40 hair-like radial spines are glossy white.
The white flowers have a red central stripe. They are up to 15 millimeters long and have a diameter of 15 millimeters. The red fruits contain black seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria schwarzii is common in the Mexican state of Guanajuato .
It was first described in 1949 by Ernest William Shurly . A synonym is Krainzia schwarzii (Shurly) Doweld .
Mammillaria schwarzii is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. critically endangered, classified.
