Man cave
A Man Cave ( Engl. "Man cave") or Mantuary ( portmanteau word of English. You and sanctuary , that "Men sanctuary") is a male sphere in a private apartment, a garage, an adjacent room, media room, a bachelor pad, basement or garage. The expression, which is widespread in the English-speaking world, stands as a metaphor for a space where “boys can still be boys” without being subject to supervision or decoration from the female side.
Paula Aymer from Tufts University called this "one of the last bastions of masculinity" compared to the otherwise predominant female taste sovereignty.
purpose
Man caves have different purposes: retreats, hobby playgrounds, meeting places with male friends. Engage in or pursue sports.
There are also mancaves in offices and workshops and, last but not least, community facilities, from barracks to student dormitories. The classic pin-ups in workshops and offices are still an expression of male territory behavior.
The term man cave or man cave is only known in German-speaking countries as a loan word from American reports. In German, the aspect of the bachelor's dorm is emphasized, the living space of a male unmarried or single. The English term expressly includes retreats for married men. In contrast, the establishment of a so-called men's garden (with model trains, men's magazines, handicrafts and sports broadcasts) in a shopping center in Germany in 2003 attracted a lot of media attention. This temporary man cave enables women to shop with care and to know that their men are well housed according to their taste during this time. A comedy by Kristof Magnusson focuses on something in between: the men's after-school care center from which the title is given is set up in a shopping center, but ultimately only accessible to the three protagonists.
