Career

Manabu Orido began his career in toge racing , a Japanese peculiarity, similar to the European and North American hillclimb races . He entered the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship in 1996 via a national silhouette series and quickly rose to become the dominant driver in the GT 300 class. In 1997 he won the annual classification of this racing class together with Hideo Fukuyama in a Nissan Silvia . After finishing second in 1998 and third in 1999, he switched to GT 500 racing cars at the beginning of the 2000 season.

In the big Super GT class, he was unable to match the successes with the 300 series vehicles for a long time. It was not until 2003 that he achieved his first championship victory at the 300 km Autopolis race . Team partner in the Toyota Supra was the German Dominik Schwager . In 2003, with eleventh place overall, he also achieved the best annual ranking in this racing class.

With the return to the GT 300 class, Manabu Orido was again the winner and in 2009 secured the overall standings for the second time. His only start in the 24-hour race at Le Mans in 2004 ended with 12th place in the final classification.
