Mandrage is a Czech rock band from Pilsen .

history

The band began in 2001, when Víťa Starý and Matyáš Vorda formed a musical team when they were teenagers. By 2004 the formation with the bassist Michal Faitl and the guitarist Pepa Bolan had found each other. In the same year they made it to the finals at the Můza music competition in their hometown of Pilsen, and the following year they recorded their first demo entitled Říkala, že jí trápí cosi . They applied successfully and received a contract with the Universal label in 2006 .

With their debut single Kapky proti slzám they had a first respectable success in 2007, even if their first album Přišli jsme si pro vaše děti found only a few buyers. For this they have been nominated for several newcomer awards. The breakthrough came for Mandrage two years later with the song Hledá se žena (about "In search of a woman"). It took more than six months to establish itself, but with the release of the album of the same name it reached number 3 in the official charts in the Czech Republic, which are based on radio broadcasts. Although the album again fell short of expectations in terms of sales, a very successful album tour followed. The music channel Óčko named them a rock band in 2009 and band of the year in 2010. Hledá se žena was nominated as song of the year for an Anděl , the Czech music award.

Commercial success came at the end of 2011 with the third album Moje krevní skupina ("My blood group"). It is turning from guitar rock more towards electronic music. The song Františkovy Lázně (after the western Czech town of Franzensbad ), released in spring, climbed to number 5 in the radio charts. The pre-release single Šrouby a matice (about "screws and nuts") was a great success and after the album reached number 8 in the sales charts the song rose to number 1 on the song charts at the end of the year.
