description

Appearance and leaf

Bivonaea lutea is a slender, bare, annual , herbaceous plant with heights of 4 to 20 centimeters. Several upright to ascending stems can be formed. Stipules are missing.

The short-stalked basal leaves are oblong-spatulate. The leaf margin is entire or toothed.

Flower, fruit and seeds

The flowers stand together in racemose inflorescences . The hermaphrodite flowers are fourfold. The four free, protruding sepals are arranged in two circles. The four yellow petals of the same size are about 3 millimeters long and therefore one and a half times as long as the sepals. The free, a total of six stamens have no appendages and are in two circles with two short stamens on the outside and four long stamens on the inside.

The obverse-shaped, elongated, 5 to 7 millimeter long pods are edged and flattened perpendicular to this with a narrow partition ( angustisept ). The fruit flaps are winged 1 to 2 millimeters wide. Two to six seeds are formed in each fruit compartment . The surface of the seeds is smooth, so there are no wart-shaped glands.

Systematics

The genus Bivonaea was established in 1821 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle in Mémoires du Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle , Volume 7, page 241. It is the only species that contains Bivonaea lutea .

This species was first described by Antonius de Bivona-Bernardi in Sicularum Plantarum Centuria , Volume 1, page 78 under the Basionym Thlaspi luteum . Under the name Bivonaea lutea it was placed in 1821 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle in Regni Vegetabilis Systema naturale, sive Ordine, Genera et Species Plantarum Secundum Methodi Naturalis Normas Digestarum et Descriptarum , Volume 2, page 555 in the genus Bivonaea .
