Manfred Alexander

Manfred Alexander (born October 10, 1939 in Paderborn ) is a German historian .

Life and research

After studying history, German, comparative linguistics and philosophy, Manfred Alexander received his doctorate in 1968 with a thesis on the German-Czechoslovak arbitration agreement within the framework of the Locarno agreements at the University of Cologne . From 1967 to 1971 he was employed at the Ostkolleg of the Federal Agency for Civic Education in Cologne. Between 1971 and 1976 he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Eastern European History at the University of Cologne. In 1976 he completed his habilitation in Cologne. From 1983 to 2005 he was Professor of Eastern European History at the University of Cologne. His main research interests include the history of Russia, Poland, the Bohemian countries and Czechoslovakia. He is the German chairman of the German-Czech textbook commission .
