Manfred F. Fischer

Manfred Frithjof Fischer (born February 12, 1936 in Ohrdruf ) is a German art historian and monument conservator .

Fischer studied art history, history and German in Erlangen and Göttingen, where he received his doctorate in 1964 with a dissertation on "The former Cistercian monastery Heilsbronn near Ansbach". After working at the Central Institute for Art History in Munich and at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome, he became a conservator in the Bavarian Administration of State Palaces, Gardens and Lakes in Munich in 1970 . From 1973 to 1998 he finally headed the monument protection office of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . Since 1974 he has also been teaching at the University of Hamburg .

He has published numerous books and essays on the history of European architecture and art, especially Hamburg, as well as on the history and theory of monument preservation .
