Athletic career

In the 1960 season (calendar year season) Manfred Frohl began his career in high-class football at the age of 22. For SC progress Weissenfels he played three games as a defender in the GDR major league between the 18th and 26th matchday. After this season, the SC progress had to relegate to the GDR league and was converted into a company sports community (BSG) . In the three following GDR league seasons Frohl made it to the regular player when he completed 82 out of the 95 games played.

In the summer of 1964 Frohl moved to the GDR league club BSG Stahl Riesa . After he had only been used in 13 of the 30 GDR league games in the 1964/65 season, he became a regular in Riesa again in the following three seasons . In the 90 league games of this period Frohl was missing only 13 games, in 1965/66 he scored his only two goals of his higher-class career. In the 1967/68 season he was involved with 26 to 30 league games in the rise of BSG Stahl in the GDR league. In the league season 1968/69 Frohl was called up as a defender only in the last four league games of the first round. For the season 1969/70 he was called in the Oberliga lineup of Stahl Riesa, but was no longer used. For the 31-year-old, his career in top football was over. Within nine seasons Manfred Frohl had seven appearances in the major league and 172 games in the GDR league.
