Manfred Hennecke

Manfred Hennecke (born June 24, 1948 in Eimen ) is a German materials scientist . He was the scientific director of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research and was President of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin from 2002 to 2013 . On July 15, 2014, Hennecke was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany for its services to the development of BAM into a “ world-leading research institution in the field of safety in technology and chemistry ” .

Life

After graduating from high school in Einbeck in 1966 , Hennecke studied chemistry at the Technical University of Clausthal and received his doctorate in physical chemistry from the University of Kaiserslautern . After a brief period as a university lecturer, he became head of the “Polymer Materials” specialist group at BAM in 1991. In 1993 he became Vice President of BAM and held the office of President from 2002 to 2013. Hennecke is a professor at the Clausthal University of Technology and at the Free University of Berlin and has been a member of the Presidium of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) since 2012 .
