The German Association for Material Research and Testing (DVM) is a science forum for cross-sector exchange between science and technology, universities and industry, as well as basic research and application. A willingness to innovate and the latest findings are combined with a technical and scientific tradition spanning more than a century.

target

The aim of the DVM is the transfer of knowledge in the areas of structural integrity, materials research and component testing. Structural integrity is defined here as ensuring the safety and reliability of a system or component.

history

Carl von Bach , head of the materials testing institute, suggested the standardization of test procedures in 1881. Thereupon Johann Bauschinger organized the conference in 1884 to agree on uniform examination methods for testing building and construction materials for their mechanical properties. This prompted Karl von Leibbrand , Adolf Martens and Carl von Bach to found the DVM in 1896 . During the First World War , the association had to stop its activities temporarily. After it was temporarily dissolved during World War II, the association was re-established on October 26, 1954 by Erich Siebel together with other materials researchers.

Working groups

The areas of responsibility of the DVM are reflected in the DVM working groups, which deal with the following topics:

Events

The DVM annually organizes national and international conferences for specific topic groups to exchange scientific knowledge. The association's annual meeting is held every year as a DVM day in Berlin.

  • Erich Siebel commemorative coin
