Manfred Kempers (born February 8, 1948 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Kempers already played in the youth of Borussia Mönchengladbach when he was used in the Bundesliga by coach Hennes Weisweiler as a 19-year-old . On April 15, 1967, he made his debut as a right defender in the away game against 1. FC Nuremberg in the Bundesliga. On the left wing of the "Club" he fought left wing Georg Volkert . The young player took part in a South American tour from June 7th to 25th, 1967, where friendly matches were played in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Brazil. For the 1967/68 season Mönchengladbach signed the players Peter Meyer , Peter Dietrich , Klaus Ackermann and took over the talents Klaus Winkler , Erwin and Helmut Kremers , Dieter and Klaus Baumanns from the youth . In the outstanding preparatory game on July 29, 1967 on the Bökelberg against Fulham , he ran in the 4-1 victory as a right defender. For his first use in the 1967/68 season, he came on September 13, 1967 in the away game against 1. FC Nuremberg. In front of 66,000 spectators, coach Max Merkel's team won the home game with 1-0 goals. The Gladbach defense started in the formation with goalkeeper Volker Danner and the defense line with Kempers, Egon Milder , Heinz Wittmann and Berti Vogts . His ninth appearance this season took place on May 11, 1968 in a 1-0 home win against 1. FC Köln. He came on in the 72nd minute for defender Wittmann. With the Kremers twins it was enough for Erwin to do five and with Helmut two missions; Klaus Winkler had played four Bundesliga games.

In the DFB Cup , Kempers was used in the two games against 1860 Munich (4-2) and VfL Bochum (0-2) in February and April 1968, respectively. When Borussia Mönchengladbach played a test match against the national team of the Netherlands on February 28, 1968 in Rotterdam, he was also substituted for Heinz Wittmann in Gladbach's 1-0 win. After a total of ten appearances in the Bundesliga in three years with the Gladbach team, Kempers moved to Rheydter SV before playing for 1. FC Viersen for 25 years .

A highlight was the game on July 30, 1977, when 1. FC Viersen received Kemp's former club Borussia Mönchengladbach in front of 8,000 spectators in the DFB Cup . Borussia prevailed with 8-0 goals and at Kemper's side, Erwin Spinnler , another ex-Gladbacher from Viersen, was in action.
