Manfred Mai (political scientist)

Manfred Mai (* 1953 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a German political scientist .

Life

After obtaining the university entrance qualification, Mai studied chemistry from 1971 to 1974 at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and completed his studies as an engineer. From 1975 he began a double degree in sociology and German studies in Berlin , Zurich and Marburg , he received the sociology diploma from the University of Marburg in 1980 and in 1981 he passed the German studies master’s exam there. He then became a research assistant at the sociological institute at Marburg University. In 1984 he became a lecturer in media studies and sociology at the University of Düsseldorf. He completed his doctorate in 1988 at the University of Marburg. At the same time, he worked from 1982 to 1989 as a scientific consultant at the Association of German Engineers in the field of technology assessment and engineering training. In 1998 he completed his habilitation at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster and from 1998 to 2002 he took on the position of a professor in political science at the University of Essen , after which he had already accepted a visiting professorship at the Technical University of Vienna in 1992 .

Since 1989 he has also taken on activities for political institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia, from 1989 to 1990 he was head of the "Regional Structural Change" department in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs , and worked for the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament as a scientific assistant from 1990 until 1993 and was in the North Rhine-Westphalian State Chancellery from 1994 to 1998 head of the "Media Economy / Broadcasting" department. In 1999 he was appointed Ministerialrat and from 2003 to 2005 he was seconded to the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Science. Since 2005 he has been a consultant for innovation policy in the North Rhine-Westphalian State Chancellery.
