Manfred Mergel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Mergel (* 1959 in Göppingen ) is a Swabian dialect preacher and dialect author.

Mergel was pastor in Gärtringen (near Böblingen), Simmozheim (near Weil der Stadt) and has been pastor in Aach (near Freudenstadt) since 2014. His current service mandate includes promoting dialect sermons in the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . From 1995 he became known regionally for his dialect sermons in Gärtringen and then in Simmozheim, and nationally for his annual Swabian harvest festival services at the Cannstatter Volksfest .

His style of speaking moves along the middle line of Swabian, which can also be understood by non-Swabian native speakers . In the dialect books he wrote - mostly Swabian sermons - he only uses the High German alphabet, without any special characters. On the one hand, this makes his books very easy to read. On the other hand, he sticks to a spelling influenced by High German, where a Swabian phonetic would be quite possible (e.g. with the preposition "in", which he spells like this, even if it is clearly pronounced Swabian "en").

He is married and has two children.
