Maninnya Blade is a Swedish speed metal band from Boden that was founded in 1980 under the name Fair Warning . In the meantime she called herself Maninnya .

history

The band was formed in 1980 under the name Fair Warning and released a first demo in 1982 before changing their name to Maninnya Blade. In 1984 the single The Barbarian / Ripper Attack was released , whereupon the band consisted of the singer Leif Eriksson, who was still active as a guitarist in the beginning, the guitarist Nicklas "Nicke" "Ripper" Johansson, the bassist Jan "Blomman" Blomqvist and the drummer Ingemar Lundberg passed. After Mikael "Mike Wead" Vikström joined the band as the second guitarist, the group recorded two more demos. Then Vikström left the band again, moved to Stockholm and joined Candlemass . He was replaced by Jerry Rutström. In 1985 the band also moved to Stockholm. After the album Merchants in Metal was released in 1986 via Killerwatt Records , the singer Eriksson and the drummer Lundeberg left the band. In addition, Jerry Rutström was replaced by Andreas "Rick Meister" Palm. From 1987 the band changed its name to Maninnya. At the Demo Incubus in 1987 the guitarist Johansson also took over the vocals. Then Martin Eriksson came on as the new drummer. However, he left the band after a short time to join Mikael Vikström's new project Hexenhaus , which meant the end for Maninnya Blade.

The band was re-formed in 1990 with the guitarist Johansson, the singer Leif Eriksson, the bassist Blomqvist and the drummer Johan Henriksson. After a demo in 1995, the singer Eriksson left the band and was replaced by Christer Boquist. However, the band broke up shortly afterwards.

In 2001 the compilation A Demonic Mistress from the Past was released via Stormbringer Productions , which contained demo recordings from the 1980s. In 2002 the band got together for two appearances, one of them at the 2000 Decibel Festival . The band consisted of Leif Eriksson, guitarists Nicklas Johansson and Jerry Rutström, bassist Jan Lindberg and drummer Kenneth Olofsson. At the end of 2006 the Japanese label Marquee Records released the compilation Undead, Unborn, Alive ... , which contained all previously released studio recordings, unreleased bonus material and live recordings from the 2002 performances. Since 2007 the band has been regularly active again, consisting of the singer Leif Eriksson, the guitarists Nicklas Johansson and Jerry Rutström and the bassist Jan Lindberg. In the meantime, Andreas Lindmark has joined the band as the new drummer.

style

According to Daniel Ekeroth in his book Swedish Death Metal , the band is one of the first Swedish speed metal bands and one of the first groups to have released an album of more extreme metal . According to Martin Popoff in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 2: The Eighties , the band plays aggressive metal with influences from bands like Tank and Motörhead .
