The Qysylqaraghai ( Kazakh жотасы Қызылқарағай ; Russian Листвяга Listwjaga ) is a mountain ridge in the northwestern Altai Mountains on the border between East Kazakhstan and the Russian Republic of Altai .
The mountain range extends between the upper Katun river valley in the north and the Buchtarma river valley in the south. It has a length of 120 km and in the Bystruchinski Schpil (Быструхинский Шпиль) reaches a maximum height of 2577 m . In the east, the mountain range has the character of a plateau. The mountains consist of volcanic rock and sandstone . Birch , aspen and larch forests grow on the slopes . Above, at heights above 2000 m , the subalpine vegetation level and alpine grassland begin .
