Course of the Buchtarma (Бухтарма) in the southeast of the catchment area of the Irtysh |
The 336 km long Buchtarma ( Kazakh Бұқтырма Buqtyrma ; Russian Бухтарма ) is a right tributary of the Irtysh in the Kazakh region of East Kazakhstan in Central Asia .
It rises in the far east of Kazakhstan on the northern flank of the Southern Altai , at the triangle between Kazakhstan, Russia and the People's Republic of China . From there it flows in a westerly direction, finally flowing into the Buchtarma reservoir through which the Irtysh flows near the town of Altai . In the upper reaches it forms a turbulent river that winds through a narrow valley. The Buchtarma floods in spring and summer . The catchment area of the Buchtarma covers 12,660 km². The mean discharge (MQ) is 214 m³ / s.
