Mankayane is a city in the region Manzini in Eswatini . The small town is the seat of the Chiefdom of Velezizweni .

geography

There are extensive forests of the High Veld in the vicinity . Around Mankayane, traditional arable farming takes place on small-scale plots. Part of the land is irrigated, for example around the settlement of Ntamakuphila.

To the west and south of Mankayane are larger areas of Swazi Nation Land (SNL). These areas are "tribal land", which means that they are given by the tribal leader to men according to traditional custom, who use them to feed their families. In return, they have to “give khonta” to the chief (show loyalty). The land does not belong to any person, the individual people only have usufruct rights.

In the north there is reforestation on “Individually Tenured Land” (ITL). These areas, which take up almost 50% of the country's surface, were established during the colonial era. They are private land. They originally belonged to British or Boer farmers, but are increasingly being taken over by locals.

In the east, extending Ngwempisi Wilderness Area on Ngwempisi -flow, which also includes the Mtimane River drains out its headwaters originate in the hills around Mankayane. The MR 4 runs through the town from south to north. It forms the connection to the MR 18 in the north and to Mgazini in the south.

The highest mountains in the area are the Malobo Kop (1207 m, ) in the north and the Landwado Kop (1288 m, ) in the east.
