The Mannheimer Seufzer is a musical effect that was developed and used by the Mannheim School . He is one of the Mannheim manners . With composers like Johann , Carl and Anton Stamitz , Franz Xaver Richter , Ignaz Holzbauer and Christian Cannabich , the sigh is one of the most popular and characteristic motifs. Typical of the motif of the sigh is the lead note, which is smaller in note value than the subsequent resolution note. Examples of the sigh can be found in Johann Stamitz's orchestral trio op.1. This sigh is described with a simple second lead from above. It is characterized by the rapid, often hectic change in expression that leads from one mood to another.
