Mannia pilosa , also hemispherical Grimaldimoos or mountain-Grimaldimoos called, is a liverwort - kind from the family aytoniaceae . A synonym is Grimaldia pilosa (Hornem.) Lindberg.

features

The thallus is lobed, 2 to 4 millimeters wide and 1 to 2 centimeters long, light green to gray-green and finely fielded at the top, reddish brown below and covered with large reddish, semicircular ventral scales ending in pointed lobes, which often protrude slightly beyond the edge of the thallus. The thallus basic tissue is only poorly developed, the assimilation tissue takes up about two thirds of the thickness of the thallus and is divided into numerous chambers. The raised breathing openings are surrounded by several circles with 5 to 7 cells each. Antheridia stalls are located on the ventral side rungs. Archegonia stands are raised with a support up to about 2 centimeters long, decorated with light-colored scales; the hemispherical head contains 2 to 4 sporogons. The brown, fielded spores are around 60 to 90 micrometers in size.

Location claims and distribution

The moss occurs in Europe and in northernmost North America. In Central Europe it can be found at higher altitudes in the Alps, but rarely. It grows on earth over limestone rocks.
