Manning Galloway (* 27 April 1960 in Columbus , Ohio ) is a retired American professional boxer and world champion of the WBO in the welterweight division .

Career

Galloway began professional boxing in 1978 and has fought in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Italy, France, Puerto Rico, Denmark, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Hungary throughout his 27-plus year career. He won 41 of 53 fights in his build-up phase, with eleven losses and one draw. He defeated some World Cup challengers and boxers with positive records such as Art Harris (32-1), Jerome Kinney (11-0), Lloyd Taylor (10-0), Darnell Knox (12-0), Kenny Snow (15- 0) and Said Skouma (27-5). Against the later WBC world champion Luis Santana (26-4) he lost in 1986 after evaluating the points sheet. He was also Ohio State World Champion and Light Middleweight Champion, as well as American Welterweight Champion.

In December 1989 he beat Veabro Boykin (23-3) in the fight for the vacant WBO World Championship and defended the title against two-time European Champion Racheed Lawal (19-1), Australian Commonwealth Champion Jeff Malcolm (79-21) and the British European Champion Pat Barrett (32-1), as well as twice against Nika Khumalo (32-3, 35-4) and Gert Bo Jacobsen (29-2, 31-3). In the third fight against Jacobsen in February 1993, he finally lost his title by losing points.

Against Anthony Jones (34-5), who boxed for four world championship belts in the course of his career, he won early in the sixth round and became interim world champion of the WBO. In the fight for the regular world championship in December 1994, however, he lost by point decision against Eamonn Loughran (23-1). From 1995 to 2000 he did not fight a fight. In 2004 he managed a lucky point win against former amateur star Ricardo Williams (9-1). He then boxed until 2006, but without achieving another title chance.
