Gert Bo Jacobsen (born December 18, 1961 in Østrup ) is a former Danish professional boxer and world champion of the WBO welterweight.

Career

Among the amateurs, he became the Danish lightweight champion in 1981 and reached the round of 16 at the 1981 European Championships in Finland. In 1982 he started his professional career and boxed only in Denmark until 1987. Even in his early stages, he beat several national champions and champions of the European Championship. In January 1986 he himself won the European Championship title ( EBU ) in the lightweight with a tKo victory against René Weller . He defended the title against the former European champion Alfredo Raininger, the Benelux champion Fernando Blanco, the Spanish champion José Hernando, the French champion Alain Simoes and the Italian champion Claudio Nitti.

Unbeaten in 26 fights, he boxed for the IBF lightweight world title on October 28, 1988 , but lost to Greg Haugen . In a renewed fight for the European title, he also lost in June 1989 to the strong Spaniard Poli Díaz . In February 1991 he was able to compete for the first time for the WBO welterweight title, but lost the encounter in the ninth round against Manning Galloway . In a rematch in November 1992, the duel ended with no value in the first round after the two athletes collided with their heads. In the third fight against Galloway in February 1993 Jacobsen was finally able to prevail unanimously on points and became Denmark's first boxing world champion.

However, he never defended the title, but resigned it in October. Then he defeated a number of insignificant opponents, as well as the two-time World Cup challenger Jackie Beard. In 1994 and 1995 he lost to Khalid Rahilou in European light welterweight championships . He then ended his professional career with 43 wins from 49 fights, 30 of them prematurely.
