Policarpo "Poli" Díaz Arévalo (* 21st November 1967 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish professional boxer in the lightweight . He was Spanish champion, European champion of the EBU and world championship challenger of the associations WBA , WBC and IBF . ESPABOX selected him in 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1990 as “Spain's Boxer of the Year”.

Amateur career

Poli Díaz won 59 of 61 fights as an amateur and was the Spanish featherweight champion in 1984.

Professional career

From 1986 he boxed as a professional and in the same year won the Spanish championship title in the lightweight, which he defended six times. On November 30, 1988 he won the vacant EBU European lightweight title in Chiavari, Italy, by knocking out Luca De Lorenzi. Until September 1990 he defended the title against Gert Bo Jacobsen , Steve Boyle, Lino Becchetti, Stefano Cassi, Carlos Rodríguez and twice against Alain Simoes.

Unbeaten in 32 fights, he boxed on July 27, 1991 in the Scope Arena in Norfolk for the world titles of the WBA, WBC and IBF, but lost on points against the title holder Pernell Whitaker . After 14 more fights with 12 wins, he ended his career in March 2001.
