Manuel Alcides "Manny" Acosta Molina (* 1. May 1981 in Colon , Panama ) is a Panamanian baseball player in Major League Baseball . He is used as a relief pitcher at his club, the New York Mets .

Career

Early years

Acosta was signed by the New York Yankees on January 6, 1998 . At this point he had free agent status as he was never selected in an MLB draft . He then spent more than five years with the Yankees' minor league teams before being fired in July 2003.

On July 29, 2003 Acosta was then signed by the Atlanta Braves , with their minor league teams Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Gulf Coast Braves, Danville Braves, Mississippi Braves and the Richmond Braves he was then active.

Major League

Due to an injury to Octavio Dotel , Acosta was appointed to the Major League in 2007. In his first appearance on August 12, 2007, he was allowed to pitch an inning against the Philadelphia Phillies . His first win came on September 23 against the Milwaukee Brewers .

From the 2008 season, Acosta was a regular relief pitcher in the Braves' squad. His first save was on April 19, 2008 against the Los Angeles Dodgers .

On April 30, 2010, Acosta moved to the New York Mets, where he was used 41 times in the 2010 season .

National team

Acosta pitched for the Panamanian national team during the 2006 World Baseball Classic . There he achieved a win-loss of 0–1 and finished 14th with his team.
