Manoel Tavares Barbosa (born May 30, 1933 in Cafelândia , São Paulo ), also known by the nickname Neco (in Brazil the short name for Manoel), is a former Brazilian football player in the position of a striker .

career

Neco began his professional career in 1950 at Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto . In 1957 he was signed by São Paulo FC , where he was under contract until 1960.

He then moved to the Mexican league , where in the 1962/63 season he had a decisive share in winning the only championship title in the club's history of Club Deportivo Oro . After the penultimate matchday, Oro took second place in the table, one point behind city rivals and champions of the previous four seasons, Chivas Guadalajara . So Oro needed a win in the direct duel with Chivas on the last day of the game in order to be able to become champion himself. After an unsuccessful defense by the Chivas goalkeeper Tubo Gómez , who, according to his own statement , had been hindered by the Oro player Rogelio González Navarro , Neco scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 win.

Neco ended his active career with the Mexican CF Laguna .
