Manschuk Schijengalijewna Mametowa ( Kazakh Мәншүк Жиенғалиқызы Мәметова Mänşük Jïenğaliqizi Mämetova ; Russian Маншук Жиенгалиевна Маметова ; born 23. October 1922 in Jïyekqum, Kyrgyz ASSR ; fallen on 15. October 1943 in Nevel , Pskov Oblast ) was a Soviet - Kazakh soldier.

She was honored as the " Heroine of the Soviet Union " for her work as a machine gunner in World War II and was the first and, besides Alija Moldagulova, the only Central Asian woman to receive this award.

Life

Manschuk Schijengalijewna was born in a village, but grew up in Alma-Ata , where she was also able to attend secondary school. Then she was prepared for medical training at a RabFak . In addition, Mametova worked in the office of the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR

Manschuk Mametowa (1942/1943)

In 1941 ?? Mametova registered as a volunteer at a recruiting office. But she was rejected. In the summer of 1942 she completed several medical courses and learned how to use a weapon. However, she was not assigned to the front, but as secretary of the headquarters of the 100th Separate Rifle Brigade. However, she was able to learn to use a machine gun and convinced her superiors with the precision of her shots. As a machine gunner she came to the 21st Guards Rifle Division and to the front. there she won the respect of her officers and colleagues.

On October 15, 1943, Newel was fiercely contested. Mametova received a head wound and covered the retreat of her comrades. She received fatal injuries from a German mortar attack , but is said to have repulsed the attack. According to tradition, she killed 70 enemy soldiers with her heavy machine gun ( PM 1910 ). Mametova was buried in the city of Nevel. <PICTURE>

Appreciations

On March 1, 1944, she was posthumously awarded the title "Heroine of the Soviet Union" by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Manshuk Uralsk.jpg Kazakhstan issued a postage stamp with her portrait in 1995 on the 50th anniversary of Victory Day . In Almaty and Oral (Uralsk) there are monuments in her honor. There is also a museum in the latter city.

A glacier was named after her in northern Tien Shan , Kazakhstan.
