Manuel Albuquerque Gonçalves de Aguiar

Manuel Albuquerque Gonçalves de Aguiar (born September 13, 1909 in Portugal , † June 11, 1981 , ibid) was a Portuguese officer, colonial administrator and politician.

Act

Aguiar joined the army on November 1, 1929, exactly three years later he was promoted to sub-lieutenant ( alferes ), on December 1, 1936 to lieutenant ( tenente ), on April 15, 1943 to captain, on September 3, 1952 to Major and on November 25, 1956 to lieutenant colonel.

From July 14, 1958 to July 20, 1959 he was in the rank of lieutenant colonel Encarregado de Governo ( German  acting governor ) and commander in chief of the armed forces in Portuguese Timor . He succeeded Major César Maria de Serpa Rosa , who left the colony that day, and held the office until he was replaced the following year by the regular governor Major Filipe José Freire Temudo Barata . In the last month of Aguiar's tenure, the Viqueque Rebellion fell , but was put down without his direct intervention.

On February 13, 1960, Aguiar was promoted to colonel. On October 31, 1962, he moved to the reserve.

Awards

On November 12, 1953, Aguiar was awarded the Order of Avis , in the class of commander .
