Manuel Baldizón (born May 6, 1970 in Flores ) is a Guatemalan politician .

Life

Baldizón got rich as an entrepreneur in his home region of Peten within a few years. He is parliamentary group leader of the party " Renewed Democratic Freedom " ( Lider ) in the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala and an avowed supporter of the death penalty.

He ran as a candidate in the 2011 presidential election . He promised the introduction of public executions and the dissolution of the police in favor of a militarily structured national guard. His vice-presidential candidate was Raquel Blandon , ex-wife of former President Vinicio Cerezo . In the first round he came second with 23.2% of the 10 candidates eligible for election. In the runoff election on November 6, 2011, he lost 45.98% to ex-General Otto Pérez Molina .
