Manuel Correia de Andrade

Manuel Correia de Oliveira Andrade (born August 3, 1922 in Vicência , † June 22, 2007 in Recife ) was a Brazilian author, historian, geographer, lawyer and professor.

At 20 he became a member of the Communist Party; He was imprisoned for his political activities during the Getulio Vargas regime and during the military dictatorship. He taught as a university lecturer in Brazil at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Recife and in Paris and stayed in Italy , Belgium , Greece and Israel .

Andrade was a member of the International Council for Research in Cooperative Development and received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Rio Grande do Norte, Alagoas and Sergipe and the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco.

In 2002 he was elected to the Academia Pernambucana de Letras .
