Manuel Theisen

Manuel René Theisen (born February 13, 1953 in Munich ) is emeritus professor for business administration at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He held the chair for general business administration, business taxation and tax law at the Faculty of Business Administration there until autumn 2010.

Life

Theisen studied business administration and law at the University of Regensburg. He was promoted to Dr. iur. obtained his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin and completed his habilitation in 1987 at the University of Regensburg in business administration. rer pol. habil. After positions in Oldenburg and Mannheim, Theisen researched and taught at the LMU Munich from 1998 to 2010.

Theisen is best known for his contributions to the corporate phenomenon . His book The Group is considered a standard work. Another focus of his work is the Societas Europaea (SE), the European stock corporation. His paperback Scientific Working is one of the best-selling guides for writing academic papers, essays and dissertations.

Theisen is heavily involved in corporate governance issues . He supported the Reinhard Mohn Institute for Management and Corporate Governance at the University of Witten / Herdecke , where he was a permanent visiting professor for corporate governance & corporate law from 2008 to 2012. In addition, Theisen has been the founder and managing publisher of the independent trade journal The Supervisory Board since 2004 , which is published by Handelsblatt Fachmedien GmbH. He is also known for his commitment against doctoral advice and fraud in connection with the acquisition of doctoral degrees.

criticism

As dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, in 2008 he prevented the examination-legal recognition of the courses of his retired colleague Friedrich Hanssmann , who had previously held a chair at the faculty for 28 years, after they had been criticized as misogynist and racist in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. This was partly perceived by the public as censorship or at least premature obedience to the press.
