Manutius publishing house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Manutius Publishing is an independent book publisher based in Heidelberg .

The name of the publishing house refers to the Venetian printer and publisher Aldus Manutius , who is considered to be one of the first publishers in the Italian Renaissance , who made a significant contribution to the spread of humanistic culture. Manutius Verlag in Heidelberg publishes writings from philosophy and the humanities, from jurisprudence and literature. The publishing program includes both the edition of source scripts, such as the texts by neo-Latin authors who appear in the series “Bibliotheca Neolatina” with new translations, as well as studies on topics from philosophy, art, literature and cultural history. The publishing program is modest in terms of the number of titles published, but the books are characterized by their layout, paper quality and cover, which also meet bibliophile interests. The old printer's mark of Aldus Manutius, which shows an anchor with a dolphin, was adopted as the publisher's mark , a mark that enjoyed popularity in the emblem books of the early modern era.
