The Manyas Dam ( Turkish Manyas Barajı ) is located 18 km southwest of the district town of Manyas in the northwestern Turkish province of Balıkesir on the river Manyas Çayı (also Kocaçay ).
The Manyas Dam was built in 1993-2001 as a rock embankment dam with a clay core . It is used for irrigation , flood protection and energy generation . The dam has a height of 90 m above the foundation level and 74 m above the valley floor. It has a volume of 3.3 million m³. The associated reservoir covers an area of 16.8 km² and has a storage volume of 404 million m³. The dam is used to irrigate an area of around 35,000 ha.
The Manyas Dam hydropower plant was built between 2006 and 2014. It has three units of 7.5 megawatts each . The standard work capacity is expected to be 46.5 GWh per year.
